Facebook growth slows slightly but sales still up 45%

Facebook saw its growth slow slightly in the second quarter, with sales up 45 percent year-on-year to USD 9.321 billion compared to over 50 percent growth in previous quarters. This is in line with the company's previous warning that growth will slow as the ad market saturates.

Net profit still increased 71 percent to USD 3.894 billion or USD 1.32 per share, better than market expectations. The company's operating margin improved to 47 percent from 42 percent a year ago.

The number of daily active users on Facebook - excluding its other properties such as WhatsApp and Instagram - reached 1.32 billion in June, an increase of 17 percent from the year before. Monthly active users also rose by 17 percent, to 2.01 billion.

Capex amounted to USD 1.44 billion in the quarter, while cash, cash equivalents and marketable securities went to USD 35.45 billion from USD 32.31 billion at the end of March.
