FCC names 5 Chinese companies as threat to national security

The US Federal Communications Commission has released a list of communications equipment and services from foreign suppliers that have been deemed a threat to national security. This includes telecom equipment from Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hikvision and Dahua.

The FCC is required to publish the list under the Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act, passed in early 2020. The list serves as a recommendation for the wider market to avoid these suppliers, while operators accepting federal subsidies may not use this equipment at all, nor can federal government agencies. The US government has authorised funding to help smaller operators replace existing equipment from the Chinese companies.
