The US Senate approved USD 1 billion in funding for American operators to remove and replace equipment from Chinese suppliers Huawei and ZTE. The Secure and Trusted Communications Networks Act was already passed by the House of Representatives in December, and only needs to be signed by President Donald Trump to take effect, Politico reports.
Trump is expected to support the bill, and the FCC will administer the funding. The FCC started earlier this week collecting information from operators on their expected costs for replacing the Chinese equipment.
