Former EE CEO Swantee to join Sunrise
The former EE CEO Olaf Swantee is returning to his home country of Switzerland to become CEO of challenger operator Sunrise. Swantee stepped down following the takeover of EE by BT and will take up the new position in May. He replaces Libor Voncina, who has headed Sunrise for more than three years and who took the company public a year ago. 

Sunrise also proposed Peter Kurer as its new chairman, replacing interim chairman Lorne Somerville, and the appointment of new members Michael Krammer and Robin Bienenstock to its board of directors. The appointments must be confirmed at the annual shareholders meeting 15 April. Kurer is the former chairman of USB and a partner at BLR & Partners. Krammer is the former CEO of Orange Austria and Germany's E-Plus, while Bienenstock is a fund manager and formerly lead telecoms analyst at Sandford Bernstein.

Sunrise reorganises management structure

Swiss operator Sunrise announced changes in its management structure through the formation of an Executive Leadership Team (ELT). Francoise Clemes will take over the company's Customer Services unit from Massimiliano Nunziata, who will lead the newly created Business Customers unit. Clemes (Chief Services Officer), who successfully increased employee and customer satisfaction levels while at the mobile operator company EE, will join Sunrise on 1 June to lead Customer Services. EE promotes 'fastest' 4G network with new campaign

EE has launched a new multi-million channel brand campaign to promote that its 4G network has been independently verified (Speedtest by Ookla) as 50 percent faster than O2, Vodafone and 3 UK. The first ad sees EE brand ambassador Kevin Bacon hosting a spoof TV show called 'It's a No Brainer'. He is joined by special guests Stephen Fry and Rachel Riley who will each, in turn, try to unravel the mystery of why consumers would choose to be on any other network.

Freenet buys 24% in Swiss operator Sunrise

German operator Freenet is continuing its expansion through takeovers with the purchase of a 23.83 percent stake in the Swiss operator Sunrise. Freenet said it agreed to pay EUR 714 million for the shares from CVC Capital and will buy another 0.73 percent in the company next month. Yallo offers new Swiss tariff through Post Office outlets

The Yallo mobile brand of Swiss operator Sunrise has launched a new tariff called 'Swiss', reports CEtoday.ch. The tariff offers unlimited calls and texts to Swiss networks, plus 1 GB high-speed data (up to 21 Mbps). It is available exclusively through Swiss Post Office outlets. Customers can buy extra data if they use up their 1 GB allowance. For example, they can buy a further gigabyte of data for CHF 15, or pay CHF 0.02 per MB. Sunrise adds 79,700 post-paid mobile customers in 2015

Swiss operator Sunrise added 79,700 net new post-paid mobile subscribers in 2015, up 6 percent year-on-year to reach 1.4 million. Post-paid mobile additions were 20,600 in the fourth quarter. Internet customer additions grew by 5,300 in Q4 2015, the strongest increase in more than five years. Sunrise demands fair competition from Swisscom

Sunrise has responded to the confirmation by the Federal Administrative Court of the Competition Commission's decision of November 2009 in the ADSL investigation against Swisscom. Sunrise considers that Swisscom's alleged abuse of market dominance in broadband services and the consequent disadvantage for competitors have been confirmed. Sunrise sues UPC Cablecom for distortion of competition

Sunrise has filed a legal complaint against UPC Cablecom regarding television connection charges, accusing its competitor of a lack of transparency in its prices, inside-it.ch reports. Because UPC Cablecom charges the basic connection fee to the landlord, which then goes out through utility bills, Sunrise complains that customers do not see the full cost for the subscription. Other competitors, including Sunrise, have to charge the customer directly.
