French 700 MHz auction raises EUR 2.8 billion
France's 700 MHz auction ended on the second day, at a price of EUR 466 per 5 GHz block. Orange France and Free each bought two blocks. Numericable-SFR and Bouygues Telecom took one each. The six blocks sold for a total EUR 2.8 billion, or EUR 300 million more than the reserve price.

ANFR launches compensation for 700 MHz refarming

French spectrum agency ANFR has announced the launch of an aid scheme aimed at compensating owners of equipment impacted by the refarming of the 700 MHz band. Bouygues Telecom has installed its first three 700 MHz antennas in Paris and Free Mobile put up three in Tarbes. This follows the auction of spectrum in the 700 MHz band last November and issue of licences in December. The frequencies are coming available as France switches to the MPEG4 standard for digital broadcasting. DTT will progressively vacate the 700 MHz band, which will be made available to operators between April 2016 and June 2019.

French telecom regulator Arcep has issued licences to Bouygues Telecom, Free Mobile, Orange France and SFR for the 700 MHz spectrum bands they won at auction in November. French regulator Arcep has confirmed the results of the auction of 700 MHz band licences. SFR acquired the first position in the band, with 2x5 MHz for EUR 466 million. Orange expands low-range spectrum to 90 MHz

Orange France has over 90 MHz of spectrum and 30 MHz of low-range 'golden' frequencies after purchasing 10 MHz of 700 MHz spectrum in the auction held on 16-17 November. Carriers go seven rounds on first day of 700MHz auction

France's 700 MHz spectrum auction began on 16 November, with all four carriers taking part and six 5 MHz blocks up for sale. Bidding started at EUR 416 million per 5 MHz block, and rose to EUR 451 million after seven rounds, said Telecom regulator Arcep. The auction is not yet complete as the total amount of spectrum requested by the candidates still exceeds six blocks. The process will resume on 17 November with the eighth round at EUR 456 million per block.
