FTTH Council lowers cost estimate for full FTTH in EU
The FTTH Council Europe has presented a new study estimating the cost of bringing FTTH to the entire EU at EUR 137 billion. This assumes 100 percent of homes passed, and 50 percent actually subscribing to services. In the 5 percent most remote areas, at least 50 percent would be passed and subscribed.

The headline figure is less than its estimate released earlier this year, of EUR 154 billion, after "significant progress" in the number of homes passed and connected since that research was conducted, the group said. The FTTH Council said it's published the study in order to start a discussion with other players on t he market on what's needed to reach the EU's connectivity goals. The study will be discussed further in a video presentation on 19 May.
