The German government has approved a series of key points that will define its strategy on improving mobile network coverage.
The guidelines includes speeding up the permitting procedures to build network sites and strengthening the acceptance for mobile infrastructure locally, the use of public properties to build masts, the establishment of a fund from the Digital Infrastructure Special Fund to supply 5,000 underserved areas, creating a mobile infrastructure company to support the mobile network expansion and the launch of a public debate on 5G.
The government wants to finalise and put in place the strategy in cooperation with municipalities and the federal states. Its goal is to help Germany achieve a leading position in mobile communication internationally based on nationwide 4G coverage. This also creates a prerequisite for the 5G expansion.
