Global tablet shipments fall 8 percent in Q1, ASP up 9%
Global tablet shipments fell 8 percent year-on-year in the second quarter to 46.7 million units, while average selling prices increased 9 percent over the same period, according to Strategy Analytics. Advanced tablets, such as the iPad Pro and Microsoft's Surface Pro 4, helped drive the price increase, as consumers and enterprises alike turned to 2-in-1 type devices that offer the features of a real computer.

The market researcher estimates that Apple was largest vendor in the period, with a 21.3 percent share of shipments, little changed from a year ago. Samsung's share fell to 13.2 percent, after an estimated fall in shipments to 6.1 million from 8.0 million a year ago. Lenovo was in third place with a share of 5.4 percent, and Huawei took 4.8 percent of the market. White-label tablets accounted for 29.1 percent of the market.

The growing share of Windows tablets and focus on productivity devices pushed Android's share of the market to 64 percent, with shipments down an estimated 15 percent to 35.2 million. Windows shipments grew 43 percent year-on-year to 6.7 million, reaching 14 percent market share.
