Global tablet ships fall 13.5% to 33 million units in Q2 - IDC

The latest figures from IDC show that the global tablet market fell by 13.5 percent in Q2 2018 to 33 million units, with Apple and Huawei the only two companies showing growth in the quarter.

Slate tablets accounted for the majority of the market at 28.4 million units in Q2, down 14.5 percent from a year earlier. Apple continued to lead the global tablet market, driven by the launch of new iPad models, upgrades to the OS and its push into the Education sector. Samsung maintained second place, but saw shipments fall 16.1 percent year-on-year. Huawei was in 3rd place with shipments of 3.4 million tablets in the quarter, of almost 50 percent were in the Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan).

Global tablet shipments down 8.6% in Q3 - IDC

The global tablet market fell by 8.6 percent to 36.4 million units in the third quarter of 2018, an improvement on declines of 13.5 percent and 11.7 percent in the previous two quarters, according to the latest data from IDC. Slate tablets accounted for the vast majority of the market with 31.6 million units, down 7.9 percent from the previous year, while detachable tablets also struggled, down 13.1 percent to 4.8 million unit shipments in the June to September period.

Nieuwe cijfers van IDC laten zien dat er in het tweede kwartaal wereldwijd 13,5 procent minder tablets zijn verscheept dan een jaar geleden. Huawei Consumer Business Group (CBG) announced it shipped more than 95 million smartphones in the first half of 2018. This puts the company on track to exceed last year's full-year shipments of 153 million. Huawei said already in July that it passed 100 million shipments in the year to date.

CEE fixed broadband connections to grow 4.7% in 2018

The number of fixed broadband connections in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) reached 78.95 million in 2017, showing an increase of 5.2 percent year over year, according to data by International Data Corporation (IDC). For 2018, IDC predicts a slightly lower growth rate of 4.7 percent year-on-year, thus totaling 82.66 million fixed broadband connections. The market is forecast to continue this trajectory over the five-year forecast period (2018-2022) at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.9 percent.

Spanish PC sales fall 4.3% in Q2 as Asus plummets 58%

Total sales of PCs in Spain fell by 4.3 percent in the second quarter of 2018, an improvement on the previous quarter's 5.6 percent decline, with a 3.4 percent rise in business sales failing to offset a 10.7 percent slump in the consumer market, reports Cinco Dias, citing the latest estimates from IDC Spain. Only Dell and HP posted positive growth rates of 36.7 percent and 12.1 percent respectively in the quarter, while Asus (-58.0%), Toshiba (-32.5%), Apple (-7.3%) and Acer (-4.0%) all posted losses.
