
Google says Motorola layoff costs more than expected

The filing indicated that Google will spend USD 300 million on severance and other charges related to job cuts, up by USD 25 million from the USD 275 million originally estimated for the layoff costs. The number of job losses will not increase from the 4,000 already announced. It will also spend USD 90 million to close offices and plants and exit certain markets, leaving more areas outside the US than originally planned. Google said that the USD 300 million charge, and USD 40 million of the USD 90 million charge, would affect its Q3 earnings.
