GSMA: penetratie smartphones op 60% in 2020
Over drie jaar zal de wereldwijde penetratie van mobiel internet 60 procent bedragen, verwacht de GSMA. Volgens de mobiele brancheorganisatie zullen smartphones in 2020 bovendien in veel opkomende markten het primaire platform voor internettoegang zijn. In dat jaar zullen consumenten ook de beschikking hebben over meer connected devices, gemiddeld drie versus gemiddeld anderhalf in 2015.

GSMA kiest Mittal als nieuwe voorzitter

De GSMA heeft een nieuwe raad van bestuur benoemd voor 2017-2018. Vanaf 1 januari is Sunil Bharti Mittal voorzitter. Mittal is de grondlegger van Bharti Enterprises. Hij heeft ook bestuurs- en adviesfuncties bij allerlei gremia, waaronder de International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), World Economic Forum (WEF), ITU, Broadband Commission, Harvard en de overheid van Singapore. Mari-Noelle Jego-Laveissiere is herbenoemd als vice-voorzitter. Zij is EVP, Innovation, bij de Orange Group.

GSMA elects new board members, chair

The GSMA elected new members of the GSMA Board for the two-year period from January 2017 through December 2018. The GSMA board also elected Sunil Bharti Mittal, founder and chairman, Bharti Enterprises as chair, and re-elected Mari-Noelle Jego-Laveissiere, EVP, Innovation, Orange Group as deputy chair. As GSMA chair, Mittal will oversee the strategic direction of the organisation, which represents nearly 800 of the world's mobile operators, as well as more than 300 companies in the broader mobile ecosystem.

India to hit 1 billion mobile subscribers by 2020 - GSMA

India will see a significant increase in mobile subscriptions, broadband and connectivity by 2020. India ended June with 616 million mobile services subscribers, making it the second-largest mobile market globally, according to a report from the GSMA. The report forecasts that India will reach nearly one billion unique mobile subscribers by 2020.

GSMA releases details for Mobile 360 Series – India 2016

The GSMA has announced the first details of the GSMA 2016 Mobile 360 Series – India conference, which will take place on 25 and 26 October in Gurgaon, India.
