HP abandons Windows 7 tablet computer project - report

Hewlett-Packard has abandoned its Windows 7-based tablet computer project, according to online publication TechCrunch citing a source briefed on the matter. The device was first unveiled by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at CES 2010 in January and was supposed to be launched onto the market in mid-2010. According to TechCrunch's source, HP is not satisfied with Windows 7 as a tablet operating system and has terminated the project. HP may also abandon Intel-based hardware for its Slate lineup because the components in question are too power hungry.
