HTC reported revenues of TWD 2.8 billion for the second quarter, less than half the TWD 6.8 billion recorded a year earlier. However, the company said its gross margin continued to improve, reaching 20.3 percent compared to 14.7 percent in Q1, and the operating loss reduced to TWD 2.5 billion from TWD 2.7 billion in the previous quarter.
HTC continued to work on expanding its VR business in the quarter, launching its Viveport Infinity subscription with unlimited access to VR apps and games. Since the service debuted in April, users have launched nearly 900,000 game titles and played nearly 21 million hours worldwide, HTC said.
The company is also working on expanding enterprise services and distribution for its VR headsets. In the second half of 2019, it plans the launch of the Vive Cosmos, "created for a new level of accessibility and ease of use", the company said.
HTC also remains active in the mobile device market, with several operators launching its 5G Hub hotspot device in Q2. In addition, the HTC U19e and HTC Desire 19+ smartphones launched in selected markets, including its home base Taiwan.
