Huawei unveils first wearable, new tablets at MWC

Huawei unveiled its first wearable mobile device at the Mobile World Congress. The TalkBand B1 is a combination Bluetooth headset and "smartband" to track a user's movements and sync with a smartphone. The TalkBand allows users to track time spent on activities and progress with goals, including steps taken, miles covered and calories burned. They can also record how long and how well they sleep and set various alarms and nap functions to improve rest periods.

The 26g band is 14.6mm thick and features a bendable curve design with a detachable earpiece. The 90 mAh battery lasts for six days and charges in two hours using the USB connector. The Bluetooth 4.1 earpiece supports up to seven hours of calls and features a 1.4-inch flexible OLED display and NFC. It works with both Android (2.3+) and iOS (5.0+) devices. The TalkBand will launch first in China in March and reach Japan, the Middle East, Russia and Western Europe from Q2.

Huawei also unveiled two new tablets at MWC, both supporting LTE Cat 4, dual-band Wi-Fi and the AirSharing feature to share video and photos with TVs and other screens. The MediaPad X1 integrates the functions of a smartphone in an aluminum alloy unibody with 7-inch Full HD LTPS touch display. It's powered by a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and Android 4.2 and comes with a 5,000 mAh battery, 13 megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor R sensor and 5 megapixel front camera.

The MediaPad M1 is an 8-inch tablet with 800x1280 IPS screen and dual front-facing speakers and microphones. It also comes with a 1.6 GHz quad-core processor and a 4,800 mAh battery. The X1 will launch in China, Russia, Western Europe, the Middle East, Japan and Latin America from March, and the M1 will be available before the end of Q1 in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, China, Japan, Asia Pacific, Australia and Latin America.

Huawei also introduced the new Ascend G6 mid-range smartphone in Barcelona. Available in a range of colours and 3G and 4G versions, the phone comes with a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, 2,000 mAh battery, NFC, 8 megapixel back camera, 5 megapixel front camera and the Voice Photo function to add audio to photos.
