Idea emerges as aggressive bidder for 2G auction
Indian mobile operator Idea Cellular has emerged as the most aggressive bidder for the upcoming 1800 MHz spectrum auction, reports The Economic Times. Idea Cellular has deposited INR 13.07 billion with the Department of Telecom to secure its participation in the auction, the highest amount among all potential bidders. This amount enables the company to bid for airwaves in all 22 circles. In comparison, Airtel has submitted INR 1.03 billion, Vodafone INR 2.29 billion, Videocon INR 6.48 billion and Telenor INR 10.96 billion. When contacted Idea Cellular's chief executive Himanshu Kapania confirmed that the company had deposited the amount, but declined to reveal if it would bid in all the 22 regions. The DoT will announce the final list of bidders on 6 November, after which it will hold mock auctions on 7 and 8 November, and the sale process will kick off on 12 November. The CDMA auctions are scheduled to begin two days after the conclusion of the GSM sale process.
