Intel to sell Wind River unit to TPG

Intel-owned embedded software unit Wind River announced that global alternative asset firm TPG is acquiring the company for an undisclosed amount. Wind River president, Jim Douglas, and his existing executive management team will lead the newly independent Wind River after the transaction closes, said the company, which was acquired by Intel for USD 884 million back in 2009.

Wind River’s products and solutions enable engineers, developers, manufacturers and system integrators to build intelligent connected devices, sensors, gateways and networks that unlock machine data and connect it to cloud and IT environments. The spun-off unit said it’s looking to focus on the opportunity of industrial software driven by the convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT), intelligent devices and edge computing.

TPG completes takeover of Wind River

TPG Capital has completed its acquisition of IoT software specialist Wind River from Intel, as first announced in April. The newly independent company will be led by Wind River President and now CEO Jim Douglas. Nehal Raj, partner and Head of Technology investing at TPG, will serve as chairman of the company's board of directors.

Keller joins Intel to lead Silicon Engineering

Intel named Jim Keller as a senior vice president, effective from 30 April. He will lead the company's silicon engineering, which encompasses system-on-chip (SoC) development and integration. Keller brings to Intel more than 20 years of experience in x86 and ARM-based micro-architecture design across a broad range of platforms, including PCs, servers, mobile devices and cars. Keller joins Intel from Tesla, where he most recently served as vice president of Autopilot and Low Voltage Hardware.

Intel lifts FY outlook as Q1 results beat expectations

Intel reported better-than-expected results for the first quarter and said it's increasing its full-year guidance after the strong start to the year. Quarterly revenues rose 9 percent year-on-year to USD 16.1 billion, and EPS was up 53 percent to USD 0.93, better than the forecast of around USD 0.65.

Intel's Wind River to use Telit's IoT plaform for device management

Lenovo has selected Wind River Titanium Server as a carrier-grade platform to demonstrate and validate its Network Function Virtualization (NFV) services. Titanium Server is a commercial NFV infrastructure software platform. Titanium Server includes Linux, real-time Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM), carrier-grade OpenStack plug-ins, Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), and accelerated Virtual Switching. All those profiles have optimized Intel architecture.

Wind River released Wind River Titanium Server CPE, a new platform designed to speed the deployment of early Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) use cases such as virtualised customer premises equipment (vCPE).
