KPN announced that it has reached agreement to sell its data centre subsidiary NLDC to a fund managed by DWS, a global infrastructure investment manager and part of Deutsche Bank, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction is part of the Dutch operator's efforts to simplify its business to focus on core assets and increase its financial flexibility.
The data centre business was spun off into the separate unit NLDC early in 2017 and is thought to have been up for sale for some time already. KPN will continue to use the NLDC data centres and its remaining data centres to provide services to customers.
NLDC operates a portfolio of six data centres, of which three in the Amsterdam area and regional sites in Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Groningen. Completion of the acquisition remains subject to regulatory approval.
