Luxembourg joins top 3 countries in Netflix speed index

Luxembourg surpassed the Netherlands to join the top three countries in the Netflix Speed Index for August. Luxembourg's average speed for delivering Netflix rose to 3.86 Mbps, while the Netherlands fell to 3.84 Mbps, as all the major ISPs there showed a small drop in speed.

Switzerland remained the fastest country, with an average 3.99 Mbps. Four ISPs offered over 4 Mbps in Switzerland - ImproWare, Quickline, UPC Cablecom and new this month Swisscom. Switzerland was followed by Belgium, at an average 3.94 Mbps. Proximus, which offers Netflix over its own set-top box, remained the fastest provider in Belgium, at an average 4.08 Mbps, followed by Telenet with 3.81 Mbps.

Netflix investments in Europe reach USD 1.75 bln

Netflix announced that it invested over USD 1.75 billion in European productions since 2012. The amount covers committed spend of both past and future projects, including licensed, original and co-productions as of February 2017. The investment includes more than 90 original productions in various stages of development. The company also announced upcoming original titles and also confirmed new TV series which is co-producing in association with BBC One, BBC Two and Canal Plus.

TIM becomes fastest Brazilian ISP in Netflix index

TIM Brasil surpassed Net Servicos in August to become the fastest Brazilian internet provider, based on the Netflix ISP Speed Index. TIM's Live TIM fibre service ended the month with an average speed of 3.09 Mbps (compared to 2.95 Mbps in July), edging out Net and its Virtua fibre service which had an average speed of 2.99 Mbps (3.00 Mbps in July). GVT was third (2.83 Mbps), followed by Algar Telecom (2.24 Mbps), Vivo and Oi (each with 1.94 Mbps).

Luxemburg stoot Nederland uit top 3 Netflix Index

De gemiddelde snelheid waarmee Nederlanders hun Netflix content streamen is in augustus gedaald naar 3,83 Mbps. Voor de Luxemburgse Netflix-abonnees gold een stijging naar 3,86 Mbps, waarmee Luxemburg de derde plaats inneemt van de Netflix ISP Speed Index voor augustus 2016. Zwitserland (3,99 Mbps) en België (3,94 Mbps) blijven net als in de voorgaande maanden de posities één en twee innemen. In België geeft Netflix de gemiddelden door van vier ISP's, waarbij Telenet en Voo in augustus van positie ruilden.

Netflix speed index shows average speeds increasing in July

Netflix reported a general improvement in speeds in its July ISP Speed Index. The highest speeds for delivering the streaming service were recorded in Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Sweden, which all achieved an average of almost 4 Mbps. In total Netflix measures speeds in 41 countries. The slowest were the Philippines (1.99 Mbps), Costa Rica (1.96 Mbps) and India (1.78 Mbps).

Dutch, Belgian ISPs fall below 4 Mbps in Netflix speed index

Dutch ISPs all fell below an average 4 Mbps in the latest Netflix ISP Speed Index for June. Caiway remained the fastest ISP, but saw its average speed to deliver Netflix streaming fall to 3.98 Mbps from 4.03 the previous month. The same picture emerged in Belgium, where market leader Proximus fell to 3.98 Mbps from 4.03 a month ago. Telenet showed an increased compared to May, but Voo and SFR posted lower results.

Netflix launches ad-free internet speed checker

Netflix has announced the launch of a simple ad-free website under the domain name fast.com that allows users to instantly check their current internet speed on mobile or broadband anywhere in the world. "Using Netflix servers, fast.com works like other globally available tools including speedtest.net, and the results should be similar in most cases," said the company in a blog post announcing the service. The website even comes with a link to speedtest.net so that users can compare the results.

Switzerland moves to top of Netflix speed index

Switzerland moved to the top of Netflix's speed index in April, outpacing the Benelux countries. The Swiss ISPs delivered an average 3.96 Mbps for Netflix streams, just ahead of the Netherlands with 3.85 Mbps and Luxembourg at 3.83 Mbps. Switzerland's performance was driven by Swisscom, which rose to third place among ISPs in the country with a score of 4.03 Mbps, up from last place with a speed of 3.46 Mbps in March.
