Spain’s fourth largest network operator Masmovil has increased its fibre-optic footprint to a total of 11 million homes in all of the country’s provinces, over 10 times the coverage available just over a year ago. In a statement, the group said fibre-optic services will be available via its Masmovil, Yoigo and Pepephone brands in a total of just under 14 million homes throughout the country by the end of the year, including 5.1 million of its own FTTH homes and 8.3 million resulting from the recently-expanded national roaming and FTTH co-investment deal with Orange Spain.
The operator added in its statement that the figures don’t include homes covered by Telefonica’s fibre-optic network, to which Masmovil will be given indirect access starting in May.
Masmovil recently decided to cancel two-thirds of the digital divide fibre broadband projects it had signed up to because they weren’t economically viable.
