MediaTek joins 5G Device Forerunner Initiative, to launch 5G baseband chipset in 2019
MediaTek and China Mobile have signed the “5G Device Forerunner Initiative” memorandum at the 2018 MWC SH Global End Device Summit organized by China Mobile to jointly develop 5G terminal devices and advance the maturity of 5G chipsets and terminals. The initiative was launched by China Mobile to promote the maturity and development of the industry for 5G terminal devices, targeting the 5G test pilot in 2018, pre-commercial deployment in 2019, and commercial rollout in 2020.

MediaTek has also announced that its first 5G baseband chipset, dubbed ‘Helio M70’, will be ready in 2019. The Helio M70 is designed in compliance with the 3GPP Rel-15 5G new radio (NR) standard interface and includes support for standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) network architectures. It also supports sub-6GHz frequency bands, high power user equipment (HPUE), MediaTek said. Beyond Sub-6GHz, MediaTek’s 5G product will also support mmWave frequency to meet the requirements from different operators.

Under the 5G Device Forerunner Initiative, 5G services from the member companies will be adapted to a variety of end devices, such as smartphone, AR/VR, drone, tablets and more. MediaTek says its product lineup, encompassing smartphones, wireless connectivity, and home entertainment etc., will help bring 5G to the masses in the future.

Ericsson and China Telecom have achieved a 5G Standalone (SA) data call on the Chinese operator's 5G trial network in Hangzhou using a commercial chipset-based terminal from MediaTek. GSMA announces 5G demos for MWC19 Shanghai

The GSMA has announced a number of 5G experiences at MWC19 Shanghai. Event participants will have access to 5G immersive experience of sports, performing arts and culture. Attendees will also be able to access 5G-connected exhibition halls and 5G-enabled tele-mentored surgery. Also announced were additional keynote speakers, new partner programmes, topic tours and other event updates.

MediaTek has previewed its first 5G processor for smartphones at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference in Guangzhou. The Helio M70 is expected to launch in the second half of 2019, supporting 5G New Radio standards on both a standalone and non-standalone basis. The chip works on sub-6GHz frequency bands and is designed to deliver up to 5 Gbps based on the 3GPP Release 15 specifications.

Keysight joins China Mobile 5G device initiative

Keysight Technologies entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Mobile Communication (CMCC) in support of the '5G Device Forerunner Initiative' project. The programme aims to launch the first batch of pre-commercial 5G devices for a large-scale trial application showcase, encompassing applicable scenarios for 5G devices, product configuration, technical solutions, testing and verification, and product research and development.

Omzet MediaTek in H1 daalt met 3,5 procent
