MEPs call for universal mobile phone charger

The European Parliament's Internal Market Committee has called for the introduction of a universal charger for all mobile phones to cut costs and waste for users. It has amended a draft law on radio equipment to include the proposal. It has also deleting a rule that would have required manufacturers to register certain categories of devices before placing them on the market. The draft directive lays down harmonised rules for placing radio equipment, such as cellular telephones, car door openers or modems, on the market. MEPs want radio equipment devices and their accessories, such as chargers, to be interoperable.
