Mexico's IFT grants 20-yr shared network concession to Altan
Mexican communications regulator IFT has confirmed the grant to the Altan consortium of a 20-year concession to build and run the country's wholesale 4G shared network (Red Compartida). In a statement, the regulator said the concession was awarded for “the use and exploitation of bands of frequencies in the radioelectric spectrum for commercial use at the national level, in the segments 703 to 748 MHz and 758 to 803 MHz, with a validity of 20 years starting from the date of issue.”

The confirmation of the award to the Altan consortium including Mexican operators Megacable and Axtel comes after rival bidder Rivada Networks accused Mexico’s Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) of a stitch-up after a “dubious and perplexing" disqualifying decision. The SCT replied by filing a complaint in the US for damages caused by Rivada’s allegations.
