Microsoft launches Skype Lite for Indian market
Microsoft announced a new version of its Android app for Skype, called Skype Lite. Designed especially for the Indian market, the smaller version of the app uses less data and less power. According to Microsoft, the app is designed to work in "challenging network conditions", where coverage or bandwidth may be limited. It's available in seven local languages: Gujarati, Bengali, Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu, free to download from the Play store.

Other special features for the Indian market include SMS filtering, mobile data and Wi-Fi usage monitoring, and India-focused Skype Bots. In addition, Skype plans to bring Aadhaar integration to the app by June, which will enable Skype users to verify the identity of unknown callers in a variety of situations where identification verification is required, including job interviews, goods and property sale.

Lenovo to load Microsoft apps on Android devices

Microsoft and Lenovo announced an agreement for Lenovo to load Microsoft's productivity apps, including Microsoft Office, OneDrive and Skype, on select Lenovo devices running the Android operating system. Lenovo expects to ship millions of these Android-based devices worldwide over the next several years. This expanded collaboration between Microsoft and Lenovo also includes a patent cross-licensing agreement that covers Lenovo and Motorola devices. Microsoft signed a similar deal with Asus in April.

Dubbed 'Calling Ka Naya Tareeka', the service enables customers to make app-to-app voice calls with HD quality.
