Microsoft, Oracle connect their clouds

Microsoft and Oracle entered into a partnership to directly connect Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud over a direct networking connection and allow users to move workloads and data between the two clouds. Enterprises can now connect Azure services, like Analytics and AI, to Oracle Cloud services, like Autonomous Database. Taken together, Azure and Oracle Cloud offer customers a one-stop shop for all the cloud services and applications they need to run their entire business. 

In addition to providing interoperability for customers running Oracle software on Oracle Cloud and Microsoft software on Azure, the alliance includes identity interoperability. It enables new and innovative scenarios like running Oracle E-Business Suite or Oracle JD Edwards on Azure against an Oracle Autonomous Database running on Exadata infrastructure in the Oracle Cloud.

In the future, out-of-the-box skills or chatbots for Oracle ERP Cloud, Oracle HCM Cloud and Oracle CX Cloud will become available in Teams via the Oracle Digital Assistant.

Oracle has announced the roll-out of the Generation 2 Cloud platform in India (Mumbai), Brazil (Sao Paulo), Australia (Sydney) and Switzerland (Zurich). This follows launches earlier this year in Toronto, Tokyo, and Seoul.

Microsoft invests USD 1 billion in OpenAI partnership

Microsoft announced a new partnership with OpenAI to develop artificial intelligence in its products. As part of a USD 1 billion investment by Microsoft in the company, they will jointly build new Azure AI supercomputing technologies and Microsoft will become OpenAI's preferred partner for commercializing new AI technologies. In addition, OpenAI will port its services to run on Microsoft Azure.

Cloud infrastructure services spending growth rate slows to 42% in Q1 after massive outlay
