Mobistar opens 4G network to customers
Mobistar has opened its LTE network for customers to start testing in 30 towns and cities. Customers with a Dolphin or Panther plan including data or an Internet Everywhere subscription can access the 4G service initially at no extra costs. In early 2014, the Belgian operator plans to add another 40 towns to the network and launch its commercial LTE offers. The company aims to match its 2G coverage with LTE by 2015. Mobistar is the last of the three operators in Belgium to launch 4G.

Mobistar plans commercial 4G launch in March

Mobistar announced that it will launch commercial 4G services in March. CEO Jean-Marc Harion made the announcement at the presentation of the Belgian operator's annual results, Datanews reports. The company started limited access to 4G in November last year for customers on certain data plans. It aimed to add coverage in another 40 towns to ensure significant coverage at the commercial launch. LTE coverage should match the current 2G coverage by 2015.

Mobistar forecasts further drop in EBITDA in 2014

Mobistar reported revenues for 2013 down 11.5 percent to EUR 1.46 billion. The result was slightly ahead of its target of EUR 1.45 billion. Net profit dropped to EUR 87.4 million from EUR 185.7 million in 2012, and adjusted EBITDA fell 32.6 percent to EUR 335.7 million. The EBITDA margin fell to 26.8 percent from 34.3 in 2012, hurt by regulatory cuts to termination and roaming rates, the Belgian operator said. Telenet customers to get access to 4G on Mobistar network

Customers of Belgian cable operator Telenet will have access to the Mobistar 4G network once it's launched. Telenet is a MVNO on the Mobistar network. Movistar started testing LTE in 30 towns in November 2013 and plans a commercial launch in Q1 2014. Mobistar adjusts deals, scraps subscription periods

Mobistar has adjusted its Kangaroo, Dolphin and Panther deals, and completely scrapped subscriptions periods, Belgian reseller Astel.be reported. The Kangaroo offering at EUR 8 per month now provides 90 call minutes instead of 60. Kangaroo 15 will see its price reduced to EUR 15 from 16 per month. Mobistar laat klanten 4G testen

Mobistar opent vandaag zijn 4G-netwerk in 30 steden en gemeenten voor klanten die gebruik maken van een abonnement met mobiele data (Dolfijn of Panter) of klanten met een Internet Everywhere-abonnement. Belgium raises EUR 360 mln in 800 MHz auction

Mobistar 9-mth revenues down 8%

Belgian mobile operator Mobistar reported revenues for the first nine months of the year down 8.0 percent to EUR 1.104 billion, hurt by termination rate cuts and a shift in pricing to deal with growing competition on the market. Mobistar loses chief strategy officer

Olivier Ysewijn is stepping down as Mobistar's chief strategy officer. He has been with the company since it started in 1996 and is a member of the executive committee since 2004. He will leave the company at the end of November. In addition to corporate strategy, development and communication, he has managed the Belgian operator's wholesale and roaming business for the past year. The roll-out of 4G in Brussels is again uncertain, based on antenna radiation norms proposed by the government and seen by local paper De Tijd. Base launches LTE in 15 cities in Belgium

Belgian mobile operator Base has launched LTE services in 15 cities. With the extensive coverage at launch, Base said it aims to show its high ambitions for 4G. More cities will follow soon, the KPN subsidiary said. Base customers with an unlimited plan from B-39 will receive 4G access automatically. Customers can expect speeds of up to 20 Mbps with a 4G phone, the operator said.
