Motorola warns of weak sales in Q4
Motorola Mobility reported revenues of USD 3.4 billion for the fourth quarter, up slightly from USD 3.3 billion in the third quarter of 2011. The company shipped 10.5 million mobile devices in the quarter, including 5.3 million smartphones, versus 11.6 million devices and 4.8 million smartphones in Q3. Motorola said its preliminary results show "modest" profitability on a non-GAAP basis, as results were hurt by "the increased competitive environment in the Mobile Device business" and higher legal costs due to ongoing patent disputes. The company estimates sales of USD 900 million for its Home business in the fourth quarter. Motorola Mobility will issue full results for the period on 26 January. Motorola said it expects the takeover by Google to close in early 2012.

HTC sales weaker than expected in Q4, down 2.5%

HTC reported fourth-quarter sales down 2.5 percent from a year earlier to TWD 101.4 billion. Operating profit fell to TWD 13.0 billion from TWD 16.7 billion, and net profit dropped to TWD 11.0 billion from TWD 14.8 billion. Further details of the results will be released at a later date. Samsung sees rise in Q4 sales, opg profit

Samsung Electronics said it expects to report fourth-quarter sales of KRW 47 trillion and operating profit of KRW 5.2 trillion. The company said the estimates are based on a preliminary range of KRW 46-48 trillion for sales and KRW 5.0-5.4 trillion for operating profit. The results are up from sales of KRW 41.87 trillion and operating profit of KRW 3.01 trillion in the year-earlier period. The company will report full results at a later date, after board approval of the figures.

Motorola Mobility reported third-quarter revenues of USD 3.3 billion, up 11 percent from a year earlier. The company's net loss narrowed slightly, to USD 32 million or 11 cents a share versus USD 34 million or 12 cents a share a year ago.
