Nokia starts Digital Health unit after Withings takeover
Nokia announced that it has closed the acquisition of Withings earlier than expected. Through this acquisition, originally announced in April, Nokia Technologies has established a new Digital Health business unit led by Cedric Hutchings, formerly CEO of Withings, who reports to Ramzi Haidamus, president of Nokia Technologies. The new business unit builds on the products of Withings, including activity trackers, smart body analyzer scales, thermometers, blood pressure monitors, and home and baby monitors.

On 9 June, Nokia Technologies will host an event in San Francisco to share its vision for digital health and showcase its products, coinciding with the opening of its San Francisco office.

Apple withdraws products from Nokia's Withings

Apple has withdrawn all the products of Nokia subsidiary Withings from its app store. The news comes shortly after Nokia launched a new series of patent infringement suits against Apple. Nokia acquired the French provider of digital health devices and services earlier this year and has since made it the cornerstone of its digital health unit. Withings offers products such as smartwatches, activity trackers, weighing scales, thermometers, blood pressure monitors, and home and baby monitors.

Withings launches Steel HR smartwatch

Withings, the French smart device maker owned by Nokia, has unveiled at the Ifa show in Berlin a new smartwatch. Nokia Technologies president steps down

Nokia announced that Ramzi Haidamus, President of Nokia Technologies, will step down from the Nokia Group Leadership Team effective 01 September. He will stay with the company through the end of September to ensure a smooth transition, and then leave to pursue new opportunities. Brad Rodrigues, currently head of strategy and business development in Nokia Technologies, will assume the role of acting president of Nokia Technologies, and the company has started the search for a permanent successor.

Digital health device maker Withings to hire 100 new staff

French start-up Withings, acquired by Nokia Technologies in April, plans to hire around a hundred employees by the end of the year, reports Les Echos. The new staff will be based at the company's European headquarters, located near Paris in Issy-les-Moulineaux, where 80 percent of the current 200-strong workforce is employed. Withings intends to increase its staff across several departments, including finance, marketing, sales and design.

Nokia plans more cost-cutting as Q2 sales slide 11%

Nokia has again raised its target for cost reductions, after reporting a further slowdown in the mobile broadband market in Q2. Pro forma revenues, adjusted for the takeover of Alcatel-Lucent, fell 11 percent year-on-year to EUR 5.676 billion, and the company's adjusted operating profit was down 49 percent to EUR 332 million. Nokia said it now aims to operating costs by EUR 1.2 billion by 2018, up from an earlier target of over EUR 900 million compared to 2015.

Nokia works on remote neurology patient services in Helsinki

Nokia Technologies said it is collaborating with Helsinki University Hospital (HUS) and the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Medicine to devise outpatient services and to foster mutual research and development. The first project involves Nokia and HUS working on remote patient monitoring, and will launch this quarter. Nokia Technologies said this marks its intent to enter the regulated healthcare sector.
