Nokia said that it will provide equipment for the expansion of the Net4Mobility 5G network in Sweden in a five-year agreement, replacing the incumbent vendor. Net4Mobility is the joint venture by Tele2 Sweden and Telenor Sweden. Nokia will upgrade and replace Net4Mobility's existing LTE radio network and introduce an enhanced 5G layer using its AirScale Platform.
The deal will improve legacy 4G performance and increase capacity with 5G services introduced at most sites within awarded areas. Net4Mobility will also take advantage of the 3.5 GHz spectrum band, suited for dense urban coverage, said Nokia.
Nokia will replace the incumbent vendor's 4G network and it is also expected that a significant number of new sites will be added every year. The Net4Mobility 4G network covers 90 percent of Sweden's territory and 99.9 percent of the population. The collaboration will continue with the development of a 5G network, it said. Nokia has previously been selected by both Tele2 and Telenor for its cloud core network.
Nokia will supply equipment from its AirScale portfolio, including AirScale Base Stations, AirScale massive MIMO Adaptive Antenna products, as well as other radio access network (RAN) equipment and tools for operational efficiency. Nokia will provide professional services including integration, implementation and network optimisation services, as well as technical support for operations and maintenance.
