Nearly one out of every six households in the Netherlands had a subscription to Netflix in the third quarter, according to figures from the Telecompaper Consumer Panel. This translates into 1.2 million households and compares to the 1.1 million recorded in the second quarter, or 1 out every 7.
Households with Netflix have a higher-than-average income, at around EUR 40,000 per year gross. About 43 percent of the subscriptions are taken by families with children living at home. The average number of people in a household with a subscription to the streaming video service is 3.1. The service is particularly popular in the province of South Holland: a good quarter (26%) of Netflix subscribers live in this province, compared to 21 percent of the total Dutch population.
Smart TVs and tablet are also very popular among Netflix subscribers: a majority own these devices. The smart TV is present in 56 percent of Netflix households and the tablet in 75 percent. The percentages are significantly lower the overall market, at 40 and 67 percent respectively. The tablet is, with the laptop, the most popular device to view Netflix video content. Netflix subscribers watch mainly series.
