OnePlus One to launch 2nd phone in mid-2015 - CEO
Chinese phonemaker OnePlus expects to launch its second product, aptly named OnePlus Two, in 6 months, CEO Carl Pei told PCWorld at CES. The new handset will be aimed at a different public, perhaps one that prefers design over performance, he said. OnePlus thought it would only sell phones in China in its first year, reaching 30,000 to 50,000 units, but the product's popularity elsewhere in Asia meant it sold more than 1 million units, according to Pei. The company will use the same pre-order/invitation system for its next models, due to its limited funds. Margins on each phone are very slim, so OnePlus does not want to run the risk of high production volumes. The approach also raises customer frustration at sold out stocks and thereby heightens demand. There were rumours of a OnePlus Mini towards the end of last year.
