OnePlus releases new flagship OnePlus 9 Pro, plans first smartwatch

OnePlus has unveiled its latest flagship phone, the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro models. Compared to the OnePlus 8 launched in April 2020, the new phones come with an improved display, faster charging and a new Hasselblad camera system. In addition, the company is launching its first wearable, the OnePlus Watch.

The OnePlus 9 features a 6.55-inch FHD+ 120 Hz display similar to the OnePlus 8T of last year and runs the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 5G modem. The triple rear cameras include the new Hasselblad colour optimisation scheme, with a 48MP main sesnor and 50MP ultra-wide lens. The phone comes with a 4,500 mAh battery and 65W wired charging.

The Pro model sports a larger 6.7-inch QHD+ display with Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide technology that automatically adjusts the refresh rate from 120 Hz to 1 Hz depending on the app, in order to optimise power usage. It also runs the Snapdragon 888 processor with Qualcomm's latest 5G modem and comes with OnePlus’s most advanced camera system yet, developed with Hasselblad. The camera includes a 48MP main lens, 50MP ultra-wide and 8MP telelens with 3x optical zoom and can shoot videos in 8K and 4K in 120fps. The Pro includes the same 65W fast charging as well as 50W wireless charging.

The OnePlus 9 will be available from 26 April in the colours blue, black and violet, starting at EUR 699 for 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The Pro is available from 31 March in grey, green or black, starting at EUR 899 for 8GB+128GB and going up to EUR 999 for 12GB+256GB. The OnePlus 50W wireless charger costs an additional EUR 70.

OnePlus Watch

The OnePlus Watch is priced at EUR 159, with a release date expected in April. It comes with a 46mm face and stainless steel body with 2.5D curved glass, and an extra-durable Cobalt limited edition also will be available.

In addition to syncing with phone notifications and media, the watch offers a range of fitness functions, helping to measure heart rate, calories, speed, blood oxygen level and other health metrics with the related OnePlus Health app. It runs a new operating system developed by OnePlus based on RTOS and comes with a 400 mAh battery which the company says can offer 1-2 weeks charge depending on usage.
