Orange Bank has a French customer base of just over 200,000 accounts, reports Les Echos. This is well behind the company's commercial target of 400,000 set for its first year of operation. After the launch of the service in November 2017, the customer acquisition strategy has evolved, with a greater reliance on Orange retail stores to accelerate sign-ups. Orange Bank CEO Paul de Leusse told Les Echos that 65 percent of accounts are opened in an Orange retail store, with the remaining 35 percent via the online channel.
The company has recently carried out a survey to understand attitudes to banking services, based on a representative sample of 7,000 people across five European countries, including France and Spain. The research revealed that 21 percent of French respondents already use online/mobile banking, and a further 21 percent would be comfortable opening an online/mobile bank account.
For 57 percent, contactless payment via smartphone will become the most common means of paying for items in store within five years. This conviction is significantly stronger among Spanish respondents, with 83 percent agreeing with the statement.
