Orange France adapts to new VAT rules on bundles, cuts 70 GB mobile plan to EUR 10 a month for 1 year

Orange France has started writing to existing subscribers taking multi-play bundles about a change to VAT rules introduced by the latest budget law, reports Universfreebox. For example, a customer taking the 'Famille' TV package has been informed that the price of this add-on service will increase by EUR 1 to EUR 13.99/month from 08 April, reflecting a higher VAT rate.

This is because the new rules specify that VAT on different elements within a bundle must be aligned to the service with the highest rate. For example, the inclusion of an SVoD package (20% VAT) would automatically result in an increase for reduced VAT rate services such as pay-TV and digital press.

In related news, Orange is offering new French sign-ups a 70 percent discount on its 70 GB mobile plan, as part of a revamp of the operator's time-limited promotions on LTE-based tariffs. Until the first week of April, new customers can subscribe to the plan for EUR 9.99 a month during the first year, down from the standard price of EUR 34.99 a month. Subject to a twelve-month contract, this tariff is marketed with an unlimited call and text allowance, as well as 70 GB of LTE data.
