Orange France to start using LTE-A this summer
Orange France will start using LTE Advanced this summer with its partners Qualcomm and Ericsson, the operator's director of networks, Jean-Luc Vuillemin, told Les Echos. Orange, which is now testing the technology in Saclay, near Paris, previously said it would trial LTE-A in Bordeaux. The country's other MNOs, Bouygues and SFR, are also testing the technology. Bouygues has already announced a commercial launch in June with Huawei equipment in Bordeaux and with Ericsson equipment in Lyon. It will extend the service to other cities in September. SFR, which tested LTE-A in Marseille in October, has not given a specific timeframe for its service launch, but has hinted that it would happen in the second half.

Orange France starts LTE-A rollout in Strasbourg, Toulouse

Orange France discretely states on its web page about its 4G network that it has started rolling out 4G+, or LTE-A, in the densely populated city centres of Strasbourg and Toulouse, offering up to 223 Mbps speeds on compatible handsets. Orange to launch LTE-A in Strasbourg, Toulouse in July

Orange France will launch LTE-A in Strasbourg and Toulouse in July and plans to cover all of France's large cities by the end of the year, commercial director Laurent Benatar told AFP. Orange France LTE network covers 58% of population

Orange France's LTE network now covers 58 percent of the French population, up from 50 percent in January, the operator stated at its first quarter results presentation. French operator Bouygues Telecom has announced that it will launch LTE Advanced services in Lyon and Bordeaux in June. Orange France has been authorised by telecom regulator Arcep to trial LTE Advanced technology in a densely populated urban environment in Bordeaux. SFR tests LTE-Advanced

French operator SFR has claimed a first in France with a trial of LTE-Advanced technology. The test was conducted at its R&D lab Efixo in Marseilles, achieving download speeds of 174 Mbps. The technology uses carrier aggregation of frequencies in the 800 and 2,600 MHz bands to achieve the faster speeds. SFR said it expects the first devices supporting LTE-Advanced to be able from the second half of 2014, after which it will commercialise the service for consumers as well as business users.
