Orange to acquire Spain's Simyo for EUR 30 mln – report
Orange is close to acquiring Spanish MVNO Simyo, a KPN subsidiary, for around EUR 30 million. The transaction is scheduled for completion by year-end, El Economista reports, citing unnamed sources close to the negotiations. Simyo currently has around 400,000 mobile customers in Spain. According to the same source, after completing the Simyo acquisition, Orange plans to focus on purchasing TeliaSonera's Spanish mobile operator Yoigo, and close the acquisition in the first months of 2013.

Spanish watchdog CNC has opened formal proceedings against Orange for carrying out a concentration operation before notifying it to the CNC. On 28 December 2012, the National Competition Commission (CNC) received notification from Orange Spain of the economic concentration operation consisting of the acquisition of exclusive control of KPN Spain (Simyo) through the purchase of its entire share capital.

Movistar too eyes Yoigo acquisition

Movistar is considering the acquisition of Spanish mobile operator Yoigo, which is now being sold by Nordic owner Teliasonera, the Movilonia portal reports, citing news agency Servimedia. Eva Castillo, president of Telefonica Europe, said in a recent meeting with investors, that Telefonica will closely monitor the potential sale of mobile operator Yoigo. Vodafone is in talks to buy Spanish MVNO Simyo from Dutch operator KPN, sources familiar with the matter told El Economista.
