OTE trials FTTH network in Athens
OTE is testing a new FTTH network in the capital Athens that supports 1Gbps speeds in the municipality. As part of the trial, OTE replaced cable with fibre at approximately 50 households and enterprises. End-users receive internet access at symmetrical speeds of 1Gbps at no extra charge. 

OTE said it intensified its construction plan to bring fibre optics to neighbourhoods to offer broadband internet with VDSL and VDSL Vectoring. FTTH constitutes a strategic mission and an integral part of OTE Group's technological plans, the company added.

Greek broadband connections grow to 3.687 mln in mid-2017

Greek operators' broadband connections grew to 3.687 million at the end of H1 from 3.661 million in March and 3.617 million in December 2016, according to data provided by telecommunications authority EETT. Unbundled Access to Local Loop (LLU) reached 2.107 million lines, that's an increase from 2.102 million in March and 2.085 million in December 2016. The year-on-year increase during the first half was of 22,115 lines, lower than the increase of 30,743 lines recorded in the second half of 2016.

Greece approves wholesale prices for provision of FTTH wholesale access

Greek telecommunications authority EETT approved wholesale prices for the provision of fibre to the home (FTTH) wholesale access to the building entrance (BEP) and wholesale FTTH services for connection to the Floor Box. The monthly cost per speed per subscriber at BEP ranges between EUR 12.84 and EUR 43.88 for speeds of 30Mbps/3Mbps to 1Gb/100Mbps, while that on the Floor Box is from EUR 17.36 to EUR 59.36 for the same speeds. The connection end costs EUR 57.01 for both BEP and the Floor Box.

OTE expands fibre network

OTE completed the 8-month long first phase of its telecommunications infrastructure upgrade project during which it increased its number of street cabinets connected with optical fibres to more than 13,000. Greece approves VDSL vectoring at Vodafone, Wind

Greek telecommunications authority EETT announced the approval for Vodafone Greece and Wind to implement VDSL vectoring at 100Mbps. The regulator designated 25 urban centres for investment by Vodafone and 23 for Wind. A third round of investment approval is open for additional areas, with applications due by 7 July.

Wind records 1Gbps speeds in fibre-optic network pilot

Greek operator Wind Hellas announced that it recorded speeds of up to 1Gbps during the company's pilot of a fibre optic network in the municipalities of Kalamata and Nea Smyrni. The network in the two cities covers a total of 3,500 lines and 277 homes. The construction of the fibre optic pilot networks lasted about one year.
