Permira narrows Alcatel talks to Genesys unit - report
Permira Advisers is in talks to buy Alcatel-Lucent's Genesys software unit after deciding against a takeover of its entire enterprise business, a person with direct knowledge of the situation told Bloomberg. Permira, which had been in exclusive talks to buy the enterprise unit, is continuing non-exclusive talks for Genesys, said the person. Genesys makes software for managing customer call centres and is part of the enterprise unit. Siemens Enterprise Communications dropped out of the talks to buy Alcatel-Lucent's enterprise unit about two months ago, said another person familiar with the matter. Gores might still be interested in some parts of the unit, the source said. All the companies declined to comment. Alcatel-Lucent has been looking for buyers for the enterprise unit for several months, in a sale that could raise up to EUR 1.5 billion. Aspect Software, a provider of call-centre software and a portfolio company of Golden Gate Capital, is also interested in Alcatel-Lucent's enterprise business, the Wall Street Journal reported. One of the paper's sources said the odds of a deal are still high, and an agreement with one of the bidders could be struck in the second half of this month.
