The European Commission has adopted the Implementing Decision to harmonise radio spectrum in the 26 GHz band for 5G, and members states must implement the decision by March 2020. In Poland, the band is currently used both for civil and military purposes. The civil usage is limited to radio links and LMDS radio systems. The regulator UKE has promised to take back the spectrum from the current users and distribute it in bigger blocks, reports Telko.in.
Under the commission's implementing decision, by the end of 2020, EU member states should make available at least 1 GHz. UKE will be negotiating with the Ministry of Defence on the release of the spectrum, so that it can be awarded by the end of 2020, as planned by the Ministry of Digitisation, too.
In total, Poland will have available 3.2 GHz spectrum in the 5G pioneer band of 26 GHz.
