QiKu agrees Qualcomm licence for Chinese market

Qualcomm announced that it has entered into a Chinese Patent License Agreement (CPLA) with QiKu Internet Network Scientific (Shenzhen), a joint venture between Qihu and Coolpad that recently entered the Asian smartphone market.

Under the terms of the royalty-bearing agreement, Qualcomm has granted QiKu a patent licence to develop, manufacture and sell 3G WCDMA and CDMA2000 (including EV-DO) and LTE (including tri-mode GSM, TD-SCDMA and LTE-TDD) mobile devices for use in China. The royalties payable by QiKu are consistent with the terms of the rectification plan submitted by Qualcomm to China's National Development and Reform Commission as part of its settlement of a competition case earlier this year. Qiku said the licence from Qualcomm will help the company "to compete and deliver a range of 3G and 4G products that blend top hardware with the finest software".
