Qualcomm unveils new Snapdragon 212, 412 and 616 chips

Qualcomm has announced the launch of three new Snapdragon SoCs, the entry-level 212 and 412 and the octa-core Snapdragon 616. The former are updates to the 210 and 410 processors launched last year, boasting a higher frequency CPU and Qualcomm Adreno GPU for improved performance. The Snapdragon 412 is 64-bit capable and features support for 1080p video playback, an up to 13-megapixel camera and X5 LTE for up to Cat 4 speeds. The Snapdragon 212 processor also offers support for integrated X5 LTE for entry-level smartphones and tablets, an up to 8-megapixel camera and full HD video capture and playback.

The new Snapdragon 616 SoC, meanwhile, improves on the Snapdragon 615 chipset released in February last year, the world’s first commercial octa-core chipset with integrated LTE and 64-bit capabilities. The 616 offers superior connectivity with X5 LTE, full 1080p HD support including an HEVC (H.265) video codec, plus the Qualcomm Adreno 405 with support for advanced features like hardware tessellation, as well as an even faster 64-bit CPU.
