
Russian regulator Roskomnadzor has started the legal process to impose fines on social networks Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, and YouTube. The services could face fines for not removing messages inviting adolescents to participate in political protests, on 23 January.
According to a statement from the regulator, the internet platforms didn‘t remove in a timely manner 170 invitations to protests, considered as illegal by the government. The court can impose a fine of RUB 800,000 to RUB 4 million. The size of the fine could be raised in the case of repeated violation.
