Russian plans 1,800 MHz band tender in September
Russian federal telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor announced that it plans to carry out an electronic auction for frequencies in the 1,710-1,785 MHz and 1,805-1,880 MHz bands. The spectrum can be used for mobile services over the GSM and LTE standards, as well as later modifications of the technologies. The auction will take place on 29 September. Several Russian mobile operators are already using the 1,800 MHz band for LTE in certain regions.

Norwegian communications regulator Nkom said talks have taken place over the use of frequencies in border areas between Norway and Russia. It said negotiations were held in Oslo in early July by Nkom and the Russian General Radio Frequency Centre. Among other things, agreements were reached over future use of the 700 MHz band for mobile broadband. This band will be discussed at the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-15) in November 2015 in Geneva.

MTS launches LTE-1800 in Sakha

Russian mobile operator MTS has launched its LTE network over the 1,800 MHZ band in the Sakha republic, reports Comnews.ru. The services were already available over the 2,600 MHz band there. Using the 1,800 MHz band has enabled the operator to double the coverage of each base station, as compared to the 2,600 MHz band. The dual-band LTE network is currently accessible in Yakutsk, and Pokrovsk, as well in nine small surrounding agglomerations.

Tele2 Russia launches LTE in St Petersburg

Mobile operator Tele2 Russia has launched its LTE network in the city of St Petersburg. It is the second 4G network of the operator across the country, launched on the 1,800 MHz band according to the technology-neutral principle for the spectrum. The services are accessible in downtown Petersburg, including in 21 metro stations. The operator plans to triple the amount of LTE base stations in the city by the end of the year.

Tele2 Russia to launch LTE-1,800 in St Petersburg

Mobile operator Tele2 Russia plans to launch its LTE network on the 1,800 MHz band in St Petersburg in June, reports Tdaily.ru. The city and its surroundings will be covered. Preparatory work on the roll-out started in 2014, when the operator introduced SFH technology there to enable a 10-MHz band for LTE services on the 1,800 MHz band. Tele2 Russia launched its 3G network in St Petersburg in the autumn of 2014.

Russian mobile operator MTS has launched its LTE network on the 1,800 MHz band in the Chelyabinsk region, reports Comnews.ru. The services were already accessible on the 2,600 MHz band there. The operator plans to expand its dual-band LTE network in 20 agglomerations in the region by the end of June. Nikolay Nikiforov, Russian minister of communications, has approved the decision on distributing frequencies in the 1,800 MHz band via an auction.
