Samsung adds iPhone 5 to Apple patent suit
Samsung Electronics has added the iPhone 5 to the list of devices in its patent infringement suit against Apple. The original complaint was filed at a California court in April. Samsung had indicated its intention to make the amendment shortly after Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 on 12 September. A person close to Samsung told the Financial Times said that the company could not rule out pushing for a sales ban on the new iPhone, although it was not clear when its complaint would be heard in court.

Japanese court nixes Samsung's patent claim against Apple

The Tokyo District Court has rejected a patent infringement claim by Samsung against Apple. The court ruled that Samsung has no rights over data transmission technology that is used in some Apple iPhones, AFP reports citing a Samsung Tokyo spokesperson. Samsung had sought an injunction to stop the manufacture and sales of certain iPhones in Japan, claiming that Apple infringed on its patents. Apple, in response, argued that Samsung does not hold patent rights and thus cannot claim damages.

Apple wins initial ITC ruling on Samsung patent infringement

The US International Trade Commission has found that Samsung infringes four patents held by Apple, including one for the front face of the iPhone and one for touch-screen technology co-invented by Steve Jobs. Samsung seeks new trial of US Apple patent case

Samsung has asked for a new trial of its US patent case against Apple, reports the Financial Times. Samsung claims that the foreman of the jury may have been biased by an undisclosed lawsuit. It said that he did not tell the court that he was sued for breach of contract in 1993 by Seagate, computer storage maker in which Samsung now has an interest.
