Samsung Electronics plans to release a refurbished edition of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone in July, Yonhap news agency reports, citing unnamed industry sources. According to these sources, Samsung will release the smartphone under the name Galaxy Note FE, with FE standing for 'Fandom Edition'. Starting 7 July, the device will be available for a price below KRW 700,000 (approximately USD 616).
The refurbished devices will have a smaller battery capacity than the original smartphones, as well as software updates. Samsung was forced to recall the original Note 7 shortly after its release last year due to problems with the battery overheating.
Unnamed sources told the Wall Street Journal that the new device will be available initially for consumers in South Korea, with relatively modest inventory for release in other countries yet to be announced. One source said that Samsung is expected to release at most 400,000 devices for the three major operators in South Korea.
