SingTel group launches start-up programme
The SingTel group has launched Innov8 Sparks to help start-ups expand into new markets Asia Pacific. The founding members of Innov8 Sparks are SingTel's Innov8, AIS' The Startup, Kickstart Ventures by Globe Telecom, Optus' Innov8 Seed, and Telkomsel's Teman-Dev. Start-ups in the Innov8 Sparks programme will have access to working space, introductions to local partners and start-up communities, as well as local market information and resources.

Singapore operator SingTel has launched Hindi general entertainment channel Zee TV  on its SingTel mio TV service. Singtel growth slows on forex effects, Australia

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) reported net profit for its fiscal fourth quarter up 3.5 percent year-on-year to SGD 898 million. Growth was held back by the weaker Australian dollar and regional currencies; excluding the currency effects, net profit would have grown 13 percent. SingTel Innov8 boosts stake in Kai Square

SingTel Innov8, the corporate venture capital arm of the SingTel Group, is increasing its stake in Kai Square, a provider of video-analytics-as-a-service. SingTel Innov8 will buy 189,931 shares in Kai Square for a total of SGD 1.95 million, increasing its shareholding 39.15 percent from 19.08 percent earlier.

Optus Satellite signs wholesale deal with Wireless Nation

Australian firm Optus Satellite has signed a three-year wholesale agreement with New Zealand broadband provider Wireless Nation. Through this wholesale agreement, Wireless Nation will be able to provide satellite broadband services to consumer, business and enterprise customers across New Zealand. Optus currently provides services to pay-TV and free-to-air service providers in the country. Optus will use capacity in its D2 satellite, the firm said.

SingTel launches cloud-based video analytics service

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has launched a video-analytics-as-a-service (VAaaS) service for the retail industry. The cloud-based service was developed by Singapore start-up KAI Square and offers businesses insights into customers' in-store behaviour. Innov8, SingTel's corporate venture capital arm, had invested in KAI Square in an investment round in 2012.

SingTel, Optus ink credit deals with international banks

Singapore Telecommunications' (SingTel) subsidiaries entered into agreements for total credit facilities of nearly  SGD 3.5 billion for general corporate purposes and refinancing of existing facilities. In Singapore, SingTel Group Treasury, a subsidiary of SingTel, signed the agreement for a three-year, SGD 2.1 billion credit facility with twelve banks while in Australia, Optus Finance, a subsidiary of SingTel Optus, signed a three-year, AUD 1.2 billion facility agreement with eleven banks.

AIS boosts marketing budget

Thai mobile operator Advanced Info Service has earmarked THB 5 billion this year for marketing. This is up from a THB 3 billion marketing budget in 2013. AIS new executive vice president for marketing, Pratthana Leelapanang, told The Nation that most of the budget would be used for customer-retention campaigns. SingTel opens Tier 3 data centre in Hong Kong

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) is expanding its data hosting capabilities in Hong Kong with the launch of the SingTel Expan Tseung Kwan O Data Centre, which is located at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park in Sai Kung. The new Tier 3 data centre will cater to the increasing needs from enterprises in the greater China region. This is SingTel's fourteenth data centre in the Asia Pacific region.

The business arm of Australian communications provider Optus, together with parent SingTel, has introduced Unified-Communications-as-a-Service (UCaaS), a hosted suite of collaboration products that includes voice, video, messaging and presence for enterprise customers in Asia-Pacific. SingTel to offer 2014 FIFA World Cup through mio TV, mobile

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has inked a deal to bring the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil to television and mobile screens in Singapore. In addition to the mio pay-TV service, all 64 matches will be available live and on-demand on tablets and smartphones through the mio TV Go app. It will also feature multi-camera views. SingTel has launched mobile data plans to cater to the needs of customers aged 55 and above. These 4G-enabled plans offer a discount of 20 percent off the regular monthly subscription of SingTel's SuperLite and Lite plans, as well as a selection of handsets at no extra charge.
