Snapchat trials TikTok-like music feature

Snapchat has started testing a new feature that would let users add music to their Snaps, copying the concept put out by TikTok, Variety reported. Snap plans to launch the music feature sometime in the fall for English language users. The trial started on 3 August, for users from Australia and New Zealand. 

To enable the music feature, Snap has secured licensing deals from Warner Music Group, Warner Chappell, Universal Music Publishing Group, the National Music Publisher’s Association (NMPA) and Merlin.

Snap reported higher revenues and a small profit loss in the third quarter, with better operating and free cash flows. CEO Evan Spiegel said times were challenging but that the company's focus on delivering value for its community and advertising partners was yielding positive results. Spiegel noted also that the adoption of augmented reality was going faster than expected and that the company was therefore going to focus on taking advantage of those opportunities.

Softbank exploring bid for TikTok operations in India - report

SoftBank said it is looking into making an offer for TikTok's Indian operations, together with a group of other bidders and local partners, Bloomberg reported, citing sources close to the matter. The investor has over the past few months held discussions with India's Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bharti Airtel. Talks fizzled, but Softbank is still exploring its options, the sources added.
