Net income plunged 82 percent to JPY 143.7 billion in the six-month period. Operating income amounted to JPY 874.8 billion, which represents an increase of 35.1 percent year-on-year.

The Domestic Telecommunications segment’s net sales reached JPY 1.5 trillion, down 1.6 percent year-on-year. The Sprint segment’s net sales totaled JPY 1.79 trillion, which represents an increase of 4.1 percent, while the Yahoo Japan segment’s net sales reached JPY 425.4 billion, up 3.9 percent from September 2016.

In its home market, Softbank said mobile subscribers reached 32.7 million at end-September, following 384,000 net additions from March 2017. The number of Home Bundle Discount Hikari Set Applications at the end of September stood at 7.1 million for mobile services, up 1.1 million from March, and 3.43 million for broadband services, up by 529,000 in the period. The number of mobile devices sold for main subscribers decreased by 62,000 year-on-year to 4.84 million at 30 September. The decline was due to the decrease in the number of feature phones and mobile data communications devices sold.

The cumulative number of subscribers for broadband services at the end of September stood at 6.6 million, which represents an increase of 491,000 users from March. This mainly reflected an increase of 770,000 subscribers for SoftBank Hikari, while subscribers for Yahoo! BB hikari with FLET’S decreased by 194,000 and subscribers for Yahoo! BB ADSL decreased by 84,000.
