Swiss regulator extends probe of Local.ch, Search.ch merger
Switzerland's competition regulator announced plans for an in-depth investigation of the planned merger of the two local search engines Local.ch and Search.ch. Swisscom owns Local.ch and plans to merge the site in a joint venture with Search.ch, owned by Tamedia. Publigroupe, recently acquired by Swisscom, also has a stake in Search.ch. Under the proposed joint venture, Swisscom would have a 69 percent stake in the merged company and Tamedia 31 percent. The companies said the cooperation will help them better compete against international players such as Google. 

Following a preliminary investigation, the competition regulator Weko said the deal could lead to a dominant player in the market for directory services. It will complete the additional investigation within four months.

Swisscom concludes PubliGroupe takeover

Swisscom said it concluded the takeover of PubliGroupe on 05 Sepetember as it transferred the purchase price and took possession of the 97.11 percent of shares tendered, raising Swisscom's stake in PubliGroupe to 98.37 percent. Swisscom raises PubliGroupe offer to CHF 214 per share

Swisscom and PubliGroupe have agreed for Swisscom to increase its offer for PubliGroupe shares to CHF 214 per share. The Board of Directors of PubliGroupe recommends that its shareholders accept the offer at this price. The other major shareholders have also approved the new offer price. Swisscom's takeover of PubliGroupe and the partnership planned between Swisscom and Tamedia in the directories business remains subject to approval by the Federal Competition Commission.

PubliGroupe said plans by Swisscom and Tamedia to consolidate local.ch and search.ch in a joint company means its stake in local.ch should have a higher valuation.
