T-Mobile NL tests short-term 'unlimited' data bundles

T-Mobile Netherlands has started testing new unlimited internet bundles, offering customers unlimited data for a period of time such as a weekend or an hour. The offer, announced earlier by CEO Mark Klein in an interview with Telecompaper, is open for a limited group of customers to start. 

T-Mobile said it may update the type of bundles each week; an overview of the current offers is available on its website. The current offers include bundles for an hour, the weekend, in the morning or evening rush hours, and at night. Prices vary for EUR 2 for an hour to EUR 5 for a weekend or night (22.00 to 06.00 hours). The bundles are subject to fair use of 5 GB for an hour, 20 GB for rush hours (07.00-10.00 or 16.00-19.00) and 50 GB for nights and weekends. 

T-Mobile said the experiment is designed to gain customer feedback on new ways to offer mobile data. Certain customers were invited over SMS to participate in the test. The bundles are designed for use on a mobile phone but can also be used over a hotspot or by customers who pay for a shared subscription.

T-Mobile Netherlands reported first-quarter sales down 6.4 percent to EUR 324 million, hurt by price pressure and fewer customers. T-Mobile biedt bij wijze van test verschillende, nieuwe databundels waarmee gebruikers tijdelijk 'onbeperkt' kunnen internetten. DT may follow T-Mobile US strategy in Netherlands - report

Deutsche Telekom is considering following in the Netherlands the same 'uncarrier' strategy as its T-Mobile US unit, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. The disruptive challenger strategy is under consideration as T-Mobile has struggled to keep up with its two bigger rivals, KPN and Vodafone, and an earlier attempt to sell the Dutch unit failed. The option is one of several and the German carrier may decide against it, the report said.

Netherlands 4G networks perform best in Europe - P3

The four LTE networks in the Netherlands have achieved high scores in performance compared to other countries, according to the annual Connect Mobile Benchmark by P3 Communications. This is the second time the researcher has tested the Dutch market. T-Mobile emerged as the best this year, followed by KPN, Vodafone and Tele2. Last year T-Mobile was not included in the measurements as its 4G roll-out wasn't yet completed.

T-Mobile makes 4G test offer permanent

T-Mobile Netherlands announced that it's making its offer to test 4G mobile internet for a month a permanent offer. The offer started late last year, as part of the operator's campaign to highlight the fast speeds on its network, and T-Mobile said the promo was very well received. T-Mobile completed national coverage of its LTE network last October and saw its data traffic grow 62 percent in 2015. An average 1.25 million customers use the 4G network each day.

T-Mobile Netherlands announced the new service Extra Veiling Online to help customers with internet security. The software automatically checks mobile data traffic for security issues and helps to detect and prevent apps or viruses creating unsafe traffic. The service works with any smartphone or tablet as an add-on subscription. The flexible bundle, which can be canceled on a month-to-month basis, costs EUR 1.99 per month. T-Mobile NL starts test of 4G home broadband service

T-Mobile Netherlands announced further details of its planned test of 4G services for home broadband. The mobile operator announced in December plans to test the services, and it said it's now signed up enough volunteers. They will receive a 4G Wi-Fi router with T-Mobile Sim. Subscription plans offer 30, 100 or 200 GB per month for respectively EUR 29, 59 or 89. The data cap applies only during the day, and usage is unlimited at night.
