Talpa buys rest of SBS channels from Sanoma
Sanoma has sold its TV channels in the Netherlands to partner Talpa Broadcasting. Talpa, controlled by Endemol co-founder John de Mol, already owned 33 percent of the Dutch broadcaster SBS and will require the remaining shares for EUR 237 million. This includes the channels SBS6, Net5, Veronica and SBS9, as well as the Veronica TV guide publisher. The price is equal to 12.6 times SBS's EBITDA last year.

Sanoma said the sale will help reduce its debt and allow it to focus on activities where it can achieve a leading marketing position. It remains active in the print and digital publishing market in the Netherlands. SBS is the third largest broadcaster in the Netherlands, after the public broadcaster NPO and RTL group.

The takeover seems Talpa grow its position in the TV market, just as it appears to have lost out on the battle to acquire the the newspaper publisher Telegraaf Media Group.
